CITY OF MILAN BID TO HOST THE 2015 UNIVERSAL EXPOSITION

WHY MILAN ?
  • Milan’s bid for the 2015 Universal Exposition is something the city and its district are undertaking as a service to the whole country’s, to help its growth and promote its outstanding productive, cultural and social qualities throughout the world, by making the most of the Lombard capital’s pivotal position in world-wide communication and service networks.
  • Milan is therefore determined to be the place where all the regions of Italy can express themselves and make their qualities known by presenting their products, their innovations, their professionalism and their culture as strictly in keeping with the Expo’s theme, one on which Italy can speak to the world with particular authority.
  • Milan and Lombardy can boast a successfully tried and tested method of managing the creation – on time and within budget – of major infrastructure projects and exhibition events, as demonstrated by the setting up of the Rho-Pero Trade Fair and the city’s collaboration with Shanghai for Expo 2010.
  • Clearly, Milan is at the heart of Europe: for it lies in the middle of the area bounded by the Lisbon-Kiev "Corridor 5" and the major north-south axes from Genoa to Rotterdam and from Rome to Berlin.
  • Milan and Lombardy make up one of the four “Powerhouses of Europe” in terms of economic growth, employment, education, training, healthcare, digital network development and solidarity.
This Expo will bring in its train a growth in business for Milan and for Italy generally, creating thousands of new jobs and presenting the city and region with new infrastructure as well as a new impetus for solidarity and compassion towards the whole world.
